Cartier Santos Watches
Cartier Santos watches were created initially for Alberto Santos-Dumont who was a friend of Louis Cartier. A redesign was called for in 1978 by Cartier to find a new and stylish watch in the same vein as the original watch made for aviator Santos-Dumont. Many other jewelry designers were inspired by this creation at Cartier and abroad and created items with the Santos concept in mind.
The face and bezel on all Cartier Santos series watches are square. The bezel has rounded edges. The traditional Cartier Roman numerals are used on these watches. You can find both quartz movement and self winding watches in the series. Watch bands include silver, two-tone and leather choices.
Unique Features of Cartier Santos Watches
Perhaps the most unique feature introduced in some of the Cartier Santos watch series is the screws. On most watches, watch makers make every effort to hide the screws necessary to keep the watch together. The designer of this watch series decided to use the screws as accents for the watch itself with some models placing silver screws on gold backgrounds or gold screws on silver backgrounds.
